JMD Consultants was born out of a need to provide quality service to discerning clients involved in the construction/refit of yachts.

My own background is originally from the Commercial field with service of 13 years in the Australian Merchant Marine.

In 1987 after gaining my Foreign Going Masters Certificate and having nonetheless been involved in smaller boats all my life in a recreational form, it was time to make this a full time occupation.

I worked as a Marine Consultant for several years organizing refits and constructions in Australia from yachts of 30M up to 55M.  This was principally in shipyards within the Brisbane River in Queensland Australia.

In 1989 I was commissioned to do the preliminary concept for a Catamaran motor yacht which involved build spec, general arrangement plans, tank testing (including ultimate survivability in Southern Ocean storm conditions) and this work was completed in 1991 when a shipyard was selected for construction.

To further my experience I embarked on a European trip to become more involved in the industry on a global scale.  To assist with this I took the opportunity to be master of the 65M Feadship “Cedar Sea II”.  Again considerable shipyard work was required to keep this vessel in a pristine condition.

Once the majority of work was complete I was contacted and offered the job as project manager of a 25M Hi Speed Mangusta Open construction. This was completed in July 1994 and this was the first of the very successful open series for the Rodriguez Group of Companies.

I was then commissioned to do a preliminary design for 75M diesel electric powered motor yacht in co-operation with Espen Oeino Naval Architects.  This project was completed in 1999.

In the year 2001 Espen Oeino Naval Architects asked me to be Project Manager of the 77M Princess Mariana constructed at Danyard in Aalborg Denmark This was completed in February 2003.  This was the birth of the Company JMD Consultants.

In parallel I was also Project Manager for a very new and exciting project.  This is a Carbon/Kevlar/Epoxy constructed high speed 35M Open style dayboat.  I believe that there is a huge market potential for this boat. The first boat is scheduled to be delivered summer 2005.
